I wondered about this....as I remember the conference that was being held here...I was unable to attend.

Sarasota and most especially Siesta Key has proven over and over how protected this land is.  The white sands you hear about are actually

quartz crystal.  I found it strange when I surveyed the Island...the pattern or should I say lack of pattern of distruction.

Side note of interest.....There is an old Indian Legend that blessed this area of Florida specifically Siesta Key...and if you go back and research

hurricaines and damage...We've been Blessed.  Also John Ringling built his winter home in Sarasota....prior to settling here, he researched and it

was due to the obvious protection/lack of severe weather this area gets, which made him choose to call Sarasota home.
