Obituary for Kristin Michelle Brown
Kristin Michelle Brown, 26, of Lancaster, passed away Tuesday, August 2, 2016.
Kristin was born in Madison County on March 3, 1990. She graduated from Garrard County High School in 2008 where she was involved in the SAAD Club and FFA. She received her B.S Degree from Eastern Kentucky University in 2014 where she was active in the NOVA program. She was a quality Management Specialist for Steritech.
Survivors include: her mother: April Lynn Humes (Glen Clark) of Nicholasville, her brother: Nelson Brown of Lancaster: her paternal grandmother: Deanie Brown of South Carolina and several uncles, aunts and cousins in Kentucky and South Carolina.
Kristin was preceded in death by her father: Stanley Brown; her maternal grandparents: Bobby and Linda Stocker Humes and her paternal grandfather: Denver Brown.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 2:30 P.M. Sunday, August 7, 2016 at Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home with Bro. James Tyree and Bro. Dennis Pasley officiating. Burial will follow in the Cress Family Cemetery in Manchester, KY.
Visitation will be from 3:00 – 9:00 P.M. Saturday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Ricky Humes, Paul Humes, Leslie Brown, Billy Brown, David Land, Zack Humes, Levi Humes and Troy Zachary Harper.

Wow Verline...The gal has sure been through it and back and through it again.

It is with great sadness that I write Kristin's fight is over. The doctors have said that she no longer has any brain activity and the rest of her body has shut down as well. She is still on the vent to keep her heart going until her brother arrives from Kentucky.

Please pray for our family as Kristin makes her final journey back to her ol Kentucky Home in the very near future.

We'll update any arrangements as we know.

Ok, here goes.... I'm sure you all saw urgent prayer request being made.....it is with great sadness that I report to you that Kristin is not doing well and it's looking to be that this is all in God's hands.... Xrays show that fluid is continuing to build in her lungs. The dialysis doesn't appear to be working. Dr's are going to turn her over one last time to see if that helps any. Even on the full life support, her oxygen level is only 85%. She is sedated and is not feeling any pain. So, that being said, no other life support measures will be taken. Please join us in praying for peace and comfort in God's timing and His will. We know that Kristin is a born again child of God and when her time comes, she will be met by the loving arms of her dearly beloved Granny Linda, Pawpaw Bobby.

Here's the latest... Kristin's blood pressure is 90/40 something.... She's awake, but she's still on the vent. Her kidney's are still not functioning. They're going to put her on dialysis immediately for a few days to see if that will help. They're adding an art line and they have to move her pic line. If the dialysis doesn't work......... The prognosis won't be good.

Just got off the phone with April. Kristin is not doing well at all. They tried to take her off the vent, but she was unable to breathe on her own. They've discontinued the meds to keep her in the coma, but she still isn't waking up. Her numbers are up just a little but, but compared to the amount going in, she's not putting out much volume. Dr's aren't giving alot of hope at this point. Kristin's uncle Paul, aunt April and her brother, Nelson are on their way to Tennessee now.

Kristin has had to be put on the ventilator again. She threw up in her oxygen mask and was about to code when they got the vent on her again. Please pray that she doesn't sustain more injuries to her poor brain again!

Here's the most recent update I got today. Kristin isn't doing good at all. It's not pneumonia. Look to be that she has aspirated on vomiting. And she is worse as of this morning. They are saying that they might have to be put back on the ventilator and trache put back in. She had been vomiting a lot and told them that they needed to send to a Dr. to find out why. She is dehydrated and had a UTI. Her kidneys not looking good.

I'm down in Tenn with Kristin back in the hospital. I received a call this morning that they sent her out in ambulance. Her heart rate was running 145/150. Hard time breathing and her lips turned blue cause oxygen was down to high 70's to low 80's. They think she has pneumonia but she is also dehydrated and kidneys showing trouble. Still vomiting when gave medicine this evening. Please continue prayers. Kristin is really bad. They have machines on her again and in ICU.

It's been 7 hrs since Kristin was sent to hospital. I finally heard from them. They ran blood work, urine test, x-rays and CT Scan. Didnt find anything so they are going to set up appt to a neurologist for her. In mean time she will be going back tonight to Safehaven

Well Kristin seems to very tired since the seizure but, today her Aunt Theresa (sissy) and Tommy went to see her and spent time with her. I heard they had a great visit. She is going back to the neurosurgeon. And the following week to the dentist. I'm waiting to find out about her teeth being pushed back, since the car wreck. I want to know what injures to mouth and face

Good evening family and friends. We arrived last night in Ga and got to hotel. First, Kristin didn't know that we were coming to see her. And she didn't know about Nelson finally getting to come see his sister for the first time since she had the aneurysm and blood clot. So, this morning we went to see her. First she saw Clark and she was really happy and he told her that he had someone that wanted to see her and when she saw her brother (Nelson), she teared up and almost cried. She was so happy to see him. She hung onto him and didn't let go. We got to watch speech therapy come and she eat mac-n-cheese and Dr. Pepper. She done really great. She rested and this evening, we took her outside to gazebo and she smiled, laughed and was so happy.

Good evening family and friends. Kristin has been doing great with her therapies this week. Yesterday PT stood her up several times and she turned a little pale but she managed to stand( with them holding her) finally a total of 20 seconds. Today she went to neurosurgeon for her follow up. They took out stitches and staples from her head and now she can get her hair washed. They said things look good. And she will follow up again in 3 months. But, they won't be putting prosthesis in head til 6 months to a year. Ugh! She hates that rubber helmet on.

I don't have a lot on Kristin these days since her mom isn't down there with her on a daily basis. She seems to be doing well at this time. Her mom just received guardianship, which has been a battle because 3 different states were involved. she is beginning to eat little things like soup, a few bites of watermelon..... dr feels she is making enough progress that she is being recommended to return to Shepherd Center to pick up the therapy pace.

Kristin had a good day yesterday and had a pedicure and manicure. Thanks to her lovely caregivers. Today she had to go back to eye Dr. for her fitting for her glasses. Her and the caregiver that went with her had fun picking out her glass frames. After getting back she had PT, OT, and speech. This Friday her closest and best friend ( Heather) will be going to see her and spend time with her. Hope she enjoys spending time with her.

Hope all is having a good day. Yesterday Kristin had a long day. Of course her 4 hrs of antibiotics. She went to the eye specialist yesterday and will get her new glasses Monday. I'm waiting to see what the eye Dr. had to say about her eyes since the wreck. When she got back and they went to give her feeding and medicine she got sick. Yesterday afternoon she had PT and OT. So, last night she was chilling in bed and watching TV. This morning she was finishing up the antibiotics and ready to get up. Said she was doing good

I haven't posted for a couple days, I'm sorry a lot of things going on. Kristin has been doing great lately and has started speaking more. Yesterday she started back having physical therapy and had speech therapy. It wore her out. She told staff again to take the damn thing off. She is talking about the safety mitt on her hand that prevents her from scratching her head again. But, she is good for slipping out of it herself. And she has gotten really good at it. Going to check on her in little but and I'm hoping she will talk on phone to me.

Infectious Disease Dr. Came in and they are going to continue the antibiotics she is on. Looking to send to regular room depending on neurosurgeon. She isnt feeling good today. She is awake but very quiet. She hasn't spoke at all today. They said something about sending her back to Safehaven. Not sure if that's a good idea. I voiced my concern about sending her out too soon and about pain medicine to control the severe head hurting and her crying. We shall see.

Shortly after this, they put her in a regular room where she seemed more calm.

Not good news about Kristin. She has bleeding in vascular vent left side and brain is swelling. Fluid is middle of brain. Going to take to ICU to watch and take another scan in morning. Said nothing can do at this time

Okay prayer warriors! Need Urgent prayers for Kristin. She is running a fever even on the strongest antibiotics. They can't get it to come down. They called the Dr. and he said that this is serious and better safe than sorry. Kristin is headed back to the hospital again.

Good morning family and friends. Yesterday Kristin was doing alot better and even smiled at the nurses. This morning they took out the drain from her brain, once again. She is looking to leave hospital today or tomorrow.

We continue the prayers for Kristin and believe that these attacks of the enemy will stop. We are praying the process of healing will be changed to a miracle of healing which will get her home quickly and leave the Dr.s scratching their heads as to how that happened.

Ok prayer warriors. I really need some prayers going for Kristin. Update is that after admitting her to hospital about 4am this the neurosurgeon called to tell me she has infection inside her head and he needed to remove her bone flap (skull)that showing inside and outside of it. And that her skull bone is no longer use able, that they will have to use fake one. She is in hospital in Chattanooga. Dr called back about 6:30 this morning and said everything went okay and she be in hospital through weekend and into next week. I thought she was out of the woods and doing so good and this is setting her back alot.

Staff from SAFE HAVEN is with Kristin called to update her mother. They did blood work and it came back normal. Vitals great. They did a CT SCAN. They have decided to admit her into the hospital to have neurosurgeon to look at her.

Urgent!!!! Prayer warriors....Kristin is being taken to the emergency room in Chattanooga because she is having done leaking from her head where they did the last surgery. April is still in Kentucky. She's worried to death. Will update as we know more.

Please keep the faith and keep the prayers coming!

Kristin's mom posted last night...
Hey, everybody. I know that I'm running behind on any updates on Kristin. I got a job and been doing stuff to get ready to start it. But, I ended up working 13 hrs. on Saturday. But, I called to check on Kristin on Thursday and they gave her the phone. I was blown away when I hear her speak to me for the first time and I could hear and understand her. I started crying, that was the best Mother's Day gift a momma could receive. She has been vomiting after her feeding and don't know why. I checked on her and she was on phone Sunday but, she didn't talk, they said that they gave her pain medicine and she was very sleepy from it. I was hoping to hear her say Happy Mother's Day. But, that is okay. Called her this morning and they gave phone to her and she was holding it herself. And she talked again saying that she wasn't feeling good since got sick. She told "I love you" and I'm so proud and blessed to hear her say anything.

I am so happy for these good reports. I continue to pray for her and believe she will have COMPLETE recovery and it will progress faster and faster. PTL for all His healing and care over Kristen. Thank you for keeping us updated - so appreciated.

Evening, family and friends. Called this morning and they gave her something for nausea last night. And she didn't get sick any more through the night. Called little bit ago and she was already in bed and asleep. Said that she had PT today and that she had some pain but done great.

Kristin started her day out by getting ready with some makeup on and hair band on. Her first ride in a transport van to Chattanooga to Dr. Visit. Dr. said that everything looked great and healing really well. Kristin doesnt have to wear the rubber helmet any more and no more padded mitten to protect her head. She was really tired when we got back and then had PT. This evening she got sick a couple of times. She wasn't feeling good. But, she eat a yogurt this evening, so maybe just a sour stomach.

Im one of the nurses at Safehaven. I enjoy so much working with this beautiful young lady. She is trying to use words, answering one word question, placing the pillow behind her head, we cheered her on. She was placing puzzle pieces in the proper place on the picture of the puzzle. I was talking to her the other day telling her i pray for her everyday and she reached over started rubbing my arm, so sweet
